Clothing support with care for people and the region

A committed location where clothing support, sustainability and collaboration come together.

Kledingbank Maxima Eemsdelta is located on Zwet in Appingedam. From this location, our volunteers support residents of Eemsdelta and Ten Boer who could temporarily use some extra help. Everyone is very welcome and is received with respect, attention and a friendly smile. A visit to the clothing bank should above all feel pleasant and familiar.

Eemsdelta is a municipality with a distinctive character. From Appingedam's historic centre and its famous hanging kitchens to the expansive polders, the Wadden coast and the dykes, the region conveys peace, space and history. It is also an area where people look out for one another. That commitment is the foundation of Kledingbank Maxima too.

The clothing bank has been active in the Eemsdelta area since 2016. From the shop at Zwet 39D, we provide clothing, shoes and accessories to people on a low income. A total of 27 volunteers work in the shop and on the board, including people from the target group. Around 1,500 visitors shop free of charge at Maxima Eemsdelta each year.

Municipal figures indicate that more residents are eligible than we currently reach. It therefore remains important to inform potential visitors about the clothing bank and the conditions for using the shop.

Maxima Eemsdelta is intended for residents of Eemsdelta and Ten Boer with an income of up to 120% of the applicable social assistance standard. Visitors show a benefits statement, a referral letter from a benefits agency or the Kansshop QR code together with identification. Residents of Ten Boer bring their Stadjerspas and identification.

Customers receive a clothing card for both the spring-summer and autumn-winter collections. It records which clothing they receive. Each season, this is approximately 20 to 25 items. The shop is closed in February, July and August for collection changes and volunteer holidays.

Our location has an extensive collection of clothing for women, men and children. Everything is carefully checked, sorted and presented clearly. A visit therefore feels like shopping in an ordinary clothing store, where you can browse calmly and make your own choice.

On average, around 25,000 items of clothing are given a second life each year. This supports people who need clothing while also reducing waste and contributing to a more sustainable society.

We work with community organisations such as CadanzWelzijn, Volkskredietbank Appingedam, Humanitas, the food bank and Stichting Leergeld. One successful example was a coat campaign for children supported by Stichting Leergeld. Distributing the coats through Maxima helped more families find their way to the clothing bank.

We also take part in meetings and workshops organised by the municipality of Eemsdelta to address child poverty. Through social media, the website, leaflets, local press and information sessions, we try to reach as many residents as possible. Where possible, we welcome interested groups and attend markets and fairs.

Are you looking for clothing, would you like to donate clothing or volunteer? You are very welcome at Kledingbank Maxima Eemsdelta. Together, we make a difference for one another and for the region.
